DON’T BE A HACK!

New to computer hacking? So am I. Well, I’ve heard the term before and have had pop-ups and unwanted ads or viruses spring up on my desktop but I’ve never had a clear understanding how it’s down until I received this book.
Good Basic Introduction Into Hacking
This is a very good basic introduction into hacking and pen testing geared towards the novice. It was a little oversimplified for my knowledge level but that is not the authors fault since he obviously wrote the book as an introduction for those who aren’t new to the subject matter. There is a wide range of topics covered in here. There is more than enough to get the average person who knows nothing about hacking interested in learning how to protect themselves from what is a genuine and real threat that we should all be aware of and protect ourselves against.
Great beginner book…
If you’re a novice, like myself in basic computer security and penetration testing, you’re going to be enthralled with this book.
#hackingrobot overall it was pretty informative. It got a little to basic in the beginning. But I never got bored with it. Definitely must read
Good for beginners

“Hacking: Basic Computer Security and Penetration Testing (A Beginners’ Guide to hacking, python programming, engineering and Arduino testing Book 1)” is an excellent book to understand basics of cyber security, risk management, penetration testing concepts and other security threats. I am a risk and compliance vice president and i definitely liked this book for beginners. It is good to train your staff on computer security. The writter has written it in simple and easy to understand language. I highly recommend it.
Only good for old people who don’t know anything about computers

This book is really for people who do not know anything about computers. The first 2/3 of the book could be done from a Wikipedia page or just googling. I was really disappointed when the subtitle lists “Python and Arduino” but these topics were not covered. As for Penetration testing, he explains what it is, but doesn’t provide any sample code, ideas or programs that would do this. At a minimum, I would have expected him to mention “Kali Linux” or “Backtrack” for people to do some research. Nope….not there. He also could have provided some instructions on Ethereal for packet sniffing. Once again, he falls short.
Very Good Introduction to Computer Security
I’d really rather this be a 4.5, but I can’t leave partial stars…
Good basic guide for newbies!

So, as the title says, this is a BASIC overview of computer security. Basic isn’t bad! We all have to start somewhere, and I can definitely think of a few people at my husband’s company who could do with a basic overview of these things… 🙂
INSIGHT TO THE HACKER
I have recently read this Ebook – Hacking – Basic Computer Security and Penetration Testing by John Slavio. I have in my time been the victim of a Trojan virus and had my details stolen and I have never understood how this has happened. This book was really good at explaining the different types of hackers and what they do to steal your information. I was surprised that there are also good hackers called white hat hackers who perform a service for large organisations and test their system to help improve them against the black hat hackers. These are the people who invade your systems with intent to harm or steal from you. It was very informative and well worth the read if you need to check up on how to protect yourself from hacking.
Hacking for Beginners
In the age of cyber security and social media it seems like everyone has either been hacked or afraid that at some point they will be. “Hacking: Basic Computer Security and Penetration Testing” is a great read to familiarize yourself with the terminology and the different ways in which you can be hacked. I love that this book keeps it simple and writes from the perspective of a novice. The book is purposed so that you can follow along as the author outlines in detail the different types of cyber hacks you could fall prey to. There are only two things that I would change. I always think pictures are a good source of information. I think it would be a good idea to show a screen shot of the different types of viruses/hacks that can pop up on your computer and outline them. Another thing the author does well is peeling back the layers into this topic so that the reader can digest it. The biggest question I get a lot is how to enhance security on a computer. This book gives a good narrative on the best ways to do that. While there is no full proof way, in my experience the suggestions outlined are very valid and comprehensive. If you have ever wanted to know the basics of penetration testing which is checking the vulnerability of your computer system, the types of penetration testing, the process and any legal issues as a result, reading this book will give you a good outlook. This book gives the reader a behind the scenes view of what goes on in penetration testing and defines the concepts well enough so that the reader gains the knowledge needed to hire a penetration testing service, the questions you need to ask and the credentials you should be looking for. There were some issue with the eBook, there are a lot of blank pages, so it might be a typo but that was a drawback to scrolling through the book. All in all, it was a good read. A very short book less than 55 pages that packs a lot of information. Bear in mind I am a software developer so this speaks to the heart of what I do every day but the material contained in the book can be applied to the average household just wanting to make sure they understand how to protect their computer system.
